John Kerry was no match for Texas Cowboy in 2004 election. But Al Core did won the popular vote in 2000 and yet lost to the cowboy because of the design of the electoral college. There are only two cases like this in U.S. election history. Electoral college does have some advantages: 1) worked well in a vast country at an age without cars and electricity; 2) reduced/curbed the risk of mob politics, sometimes the voters are not so sane.
